High school football video by Joel Pfahler
Joel and another student attended a high school football game with me at Tecumseh High School on Sept. 9. Joel shot video that night at what turned out to be an exciting come-from-behind win for Tecumseh over Miami Trace.
Joel edited a video report for the game in the tradition of a local TV newscast. He didn't have a partner to be able to do standups, so he added tracks during the editing process.
If you want to know more about the game, you can read the story I wrote for the Springfield News-Sun. I do a lot of freelance work for the newspaper.

High school football photos by Stephen Port
Stephen and another student attended a high school football game with me at Greenon High School on Sept. 16. Stephen was the photographer that night and got some great shots at what turned out to be a runaway victory for Kenton Ridge.
Stephen had two assignments. One was to put together a group of four photos that would be used in the next day's newspaper. The next was a group of 12 that would be used in an online photo gallery.

Learning from Dayton Dragons broadcasters by Josh Evans
The Dayton Dragons media pass is nothing to laugh at. I was able to walk through the “backstage” of the minor league team’s facility. By the time I had gone down onto the field, through the team dugout, and back up to the press box, I was very pleased with what I had seen. But the radio broadcasters were already behind the closed doors, so it took some guts to go open the door and let them know I was supposed to watch them as they broadcast. The main broadcaster, Tom Nichols, must have been Fifth Third Field at least three hours in advance of the start. A second thing that was important to him and his color commentator Mike Couzens were resources. There were rulebooks, rosters, two laptops, and more; it helped me see where they get a lot of their information.
Dayton Dragons video by Ryan Thurman
Our entire class covered a Dayton Dragons minor-league baseball game on Aug. 28, 2011. It turned out to be the day the Dragons clinched a second-half division title and playoff berth in the Class A Midwest League.
Ryan's assignment was to produce a video report on the game similar to the kind done for local newscasts.

Controversial call sparks Kenton Ridge past Greenon
By Kimberly Garlick
A controversial play in the second quarter contributed to Kenton Ridge’s 43-14 Central Buckeye Conference win over Greenon Friday night.
Kenton Ridge’s Kyle Sarven punted to the Knights out of his own end zone. Greenon’s Sebastian Conner “fumbled” the ball and was knocked over on the play while Kenton Ridge’s Ben Perkins recovered the ball and ran 63 yards to score a touchdown, breaking a 7-7 tie. However, the play was not a fumble. It was a muffed punt, which cannot be advanced in high school football.

Dragons win division, clinch playoff berth
By Kimberly Garlick
There’s nothing like baseball on a Sunday afternoon. And for any team, there’s nothing like making the playoffs. For the Dayton Dragons, Sunday, Aug. 28, was the combination of both of these ideals.
The Dragons clinched the Midwest League Eastern Division second-half title with a 6-0 victory over West Michigan at Fifth Third Field even after much question of their play during the first half of the season.
